Woodland Hobbit & Fairy Festival Call for Artists

Hemlock Spring Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center invites all artists to enter our Thank You Card contest. The purpose of this particular competition is to place the winning artist's artwork on the cover of a thank you card. The thank you cards are to be sent to those who participate in our 2009 Messages of Caring program.

The Messages of Caring program requests messages of caring from children and adults everywhere. Participants in the program will send their messages with their artwork to the Head Hobbit & Queen Fairy who will then distribute one message to all those who attend the 2009 Woodland Hobbit & Fairy Festival. The remaining messages will be distributed amongst numerous hospitals that care for sick children, including St. Jude's. Those children or adults that request a thank you card will send a #10 SASE which will be returned to them with a thank you card featuring the winning thank you card artwork on the cover and signatures of the Head Hobbit and Queen Fairy. The cards will be hand-cancelled by a U.S. Postmaster at the 2009 Woodland Hobbit and Fairy Festival and feature this year's unique festival cancellation stamp.

This competition is open to anyone that has an interest. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of 2-dimensional art or design including but not limited to drawings, paintings, or computer creations, and be no larger than 10" X 4" in size. Your artwork must be nature oriented to follow the nature based theme of the Woodland Hobbit & Fairy Festival.

First Prize will receive 4 entry passes and 1 parking pass to the 2009 Woodland Hobbit & Fairy Festival and their artwork will be printed on the cover of the Thank You cards. The artist will also receive a thank you on our website and a paragraph in the 2009 program.

This years contest will be judged by the Woodland Hobbit & Fairy Festival Council on or about May 10th, 2009.

Poetry Slam sponsored by the Smethport Creative Arts League

Poetry Slam at the Hamlin Library in Smethport.

Thursday March 26^th, 2009 7:00pm – 9:00pm

 

The Smethport Creative Arts League will be hosting its first Poetry Slam! Come share your poetry to a clapping, finger snapping, stomping and hollering audience. Three rounds will determine who wins the slam! Bring 3 poems and be prepared to perform for the audience and judges. There will be 3 -5 judges. The top and lowest scores are dropped and the middle scores are added for an overall. Please no props, costumes or music.
