Port Allegany Women's Club

Every Thursday evening starting at 6:00PM during the month of June, bring your families and friends for Concerts on the Town Square in Port Allegany. Each week a diverse musical performance will entertain you until dusk at the Town Square Gazebo at Main Street and Route 6.

Jazz, country, folk, bluegrass and gospel are some of the performers on the calendar schedule. Bring your favorite lawn chairs or a big blanket to spread out on the grass. It’s a casual summer evening of warm breezes and great music for all ages.

With free admission, free parking and free entertainment everyone can attend. If you prefer to enjoy picnic style dining during the concert there will be refreshments and beverages for purchase. The menu offers a variety such as grilled hot dogs (with the works!), sausage sandwiches, crisp fresh salads, snack packs, and cold drinks. For dessert there will be a large choice of home baked goodies to satisfy your cravings (take some home with you). You don’t want to miss a single week of fun, food and fantastic entertainment in the friendly town of Port Allegany.

Campfire Cooking 101 Workshop Offered

Learn the various techniques of camp cookery with both open fire and Dutch ovens at this great workshop offered at Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center. Explore the history and legends of the Campfire Cook. Share in the output of an open-air kitchen. Bring your appetite, willing hands & camera to capture this wholesome outdoor adventure at Hemlock Springs. The Center is currently in the process of building a chuck wagon complete with antique cookware as would have been used in days gone by. Fun things to learn about and explore!
 
This workshop is instructed by Alan Flynn. Mr. Flynn has over 20 years experience in public food preparation as a restaurant owner, caterer and resort food service manager. He was taught many of the old ways by  his Grandmother Flynn, who is well-known by many local residents in the Galeton and Ulysses areas.
 
This workshop will be held on Saturday, June 16th from 5 - 8pm. The cost is $30.00 per attendee and includes recipes, resources for Dutch Oven Societies, hands-on experience with historic cast iron cookware and kettles, as well as a campfire after the meal with music under the stars. The menu for this class includes: Chicken Fried Steak, BBQ Baked Beans, Biscuits and Apple Crisp. Enrollment is limited so call today!

Open Studio Days at Hemlock Springs Center

Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center invites all artists, writers, readers, gardeners, photographers & musicians who seek to rejuvenate body & spirit. The first Open Studio Day for 2007 will be held on May 16th from 9am - 3pm.
 
Bring your easel, paints, books, cameras, etc. and a bag lunch to Open Studio Days and spend the day with your friends, making new friends or in peaceful solitude-the choice is yours!
 
Tours of the Center will also be available on Open Studio Days. Come in and find out what the Center is about and the exciting events are planned for this season! The Fairy House and Fairy Market Place will also be open for children to see.
 
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes & long pants as the terrain is mountainous. Open Studio Days will from May - October on the third Wednesday of every month. Hemlock Springs Center is located on Gardeau Road in Keating Summit, Pennsylvania.

Herb Gardens Design Workshop Offered

This is the first of a 3-part series on herbs offered at Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center. This workshop is designed to help beginners as well as experienced gardeners create various types of herb gardens: culinary, dye, medicinal and fragrant. Participants will have a hands-on opportunity to work with two experienced herb experts, Gail and Joe Ayers from Frosty Hollow in Coudersport. Topics will include layout and design, paths, soil, fencing, planting and care of your herb garden.
 
This 5-hour workshop will be held on Wednesday, June 13 from 10am - 3pm at Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center, Gardeau Road, Keating Summit, Pa. Deadline to register is June 8.  Instructing the class will be Gail and Joe Ayers and the cost is $45.00 for 5 hours of instruction and a lunch of herbal cuisine.
