Plein Air Days at Hemlock Springs Center

Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center invites artists to Plein Air Days at the Center.

"En plein air" is a French expression meaning "in the open air" and is particularly used in the context of painting in the outdoors where natural light adds a dimension to art unavailable with artificial lighting.

Plein Air Days at Hemlock Springs Center are held on the fourth Sunday of every month from 1 to 5pm and upcoming dates are: July 27, August 4, September 28 and October 26.

There will be a Plein Air Gallery Show on November 1 to showcase the Plein Air works. Bring your easel, paints, canvasses, pastels or any other medium you choose to work with and enjoy an afternoon immersed in nature and let the living energy saturate your senses and inspire your artist's soul.

Be sure to wear sturdy shoes & long pants as the terrain is mountainous. Hemlock Springs Center is located on Mitcheltree Hollow Road, just off the Gardeau Road in Keating Summit, Pennsylvania.

For directions/map, please visit the Center website at www.hemlockscenter.org or call 814-545-1205.

Hemlock Springs Center Announces Tour Day - September 14, 2008

Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center invites everyone to tour the Center's facilities on September 14, 2008 from 9a-5p.

Hemlock Springs Center, located in Keating Summit, Pennsylvania, was built to create a learning environment in a natural setting that will encourage the preservation of the old ways and expand the mind and soul through participation in the arts. The center offers classes on the old-fashioned crafts and skills associated with the northern Appalachian region.

The historic crafts of this culture are in great demand and the skills used in creating these masterpieces are slowly being lost in the pace of our modern world.

The center also offers art classes in a variety of mediums, environmental programs and more. The tour will include the entire complex: the renovated barn containing classrooms, the fairy house and fairy marketplace, the hobbit house, acres of beautiful gardens and much more.

The newly-renovated Red Bird House will also be included in the tour. This completely furnished vacation rental property is located on the Hemlock Springs Center grounds.
