Hemlock Springs Center Receives Grant for Festival

Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center is pleased to announce that they have recieved a grant for the 2009 Woodland Hobbit and Fairy Festival. The $1,729.00 grant, provided by Pennsylvania Partner in the Arts, will make the second year of the festival possible.

The Festival Committe will be "going green" this year with plans to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE. The committee requests that vendors use biodegradble or reusable bags. There will also be a booth offering visitors information on environmental issues and how they personally can "go green" at home and even at work. In addition, expanded activities are planned for the festival including nature journaling and birding.

The Woodland Hobbit and Fairy Festival, a unique event to be held Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 10 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. at Hemlock Springs Historic Crafts and Cultural Arts Center on Mitcheltree Hollow Road in Keating Summit, is to be a young person's celebration of the arts in nature. The purpose of the festival is to bring out the artist in each person through exposure to the natural world. Music will fill the air and storytellers will share their ancient art. Participants are encouraged to dress in hobbit, fairy, elf or other woodland attire. There will be fairy tea parties, a puppet theater production, plus arts and crafts activities for children and adults. Presale tickets are offered at a cost of $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children or at the gate for $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children. For more information or to order tickets, contact Jennifer at jenniferstambaugh@jstambaugh.net or call 814-545-1205. Local retail stores offering tickets will be announced in the near future.
