Fresh Air Fund needing Host Families

The Summer of 2010 is almost over, but The Fresh Air Fund still needs loving host families. We are looking for families in the following areas to host THIS summer Red Hook, Columbia County, Saugerties, Delmar, Guilderland & Altamont, Latham and Rensselaer, NY. If you or someone you know is able to host, please sign up now.

In 2009, The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host Family program, called Friendly Town, gave close to 5,000 New York City boys and girls, ages six to 18, free summer experiences in the country and the suburbs. Volunteer host families shared their friendship and homes up to two weeks or more in 13 Northeastern states from Virginia to Maine and Canada.

The Fresh Air Fund relies on donations to provide memorable summers to NYC children.

The Fresh Air Fund still needs hosts for the summer of 2010.

Thanks to host families who open up their homes for a few weeks each summer, children growing up in New York City's toughest neighborhoods have experienced the joys of Fresh Air experiences.

Christian Music Festival Slated Next Summer

Christian bands are being sought to perform at the first Stairway to Heaven Christian Music Festival, slated for Aug. 19-21 at Allegheny River Campground, between Coudersport and Roulette.

Jennifer Stambaugh and Andy Kulp are spearheading this new event, which will follow a format similar to those of the popular "Kingdom Bound" and "Creation" festivals. The festival will maintain the same atmosphere as those events, with lots of music as well as morning and evening devotion times.

Booking of bands is continuing; local acts will also be featured along with some big names. Stambaugh said that bands booked to perform will receive free admission at all times during the three-day event.

Tickets are now on sale. You can purchase them through the website. With tax time just around the corner, now is the best time to purchase tickets. The pricing structure is based on a tier, as the event draws closer the prices will continue to climb. By purchasing your tickets now, you will save almost half of what you would at the gate the day of the event. Tickets are available for each day, for the whole event, and for adult and child. Group sale tickets are available at a reduced rate. Group sales must be greater than 10 tickets. So grab 9 of your friends and everyone save money.

A raffle is underway to raise funds to benefit the concert. Those who purchase raffle tickets will receive $5 off their festival tickets. Prizes are a Remington 870 Express 12 gauge and a Remington 700 SPS 243 or 270. Tickets can be purchased online at www.stairwaytoheavencmf.org, in person or through the postal service. The website also features regularly updated information as well as contact names and phone numbers. Raffle tickets can also be purchased in person or via email.

Primitive camping will be available on-site. Food and vendor items will also be available.

Stambaugh noted that many volunteers – ages 16 and over -- are needed to make such a large undertaking a success. Help is needed in many capacities: selling raffle tickets, delivering posters, event security, planning activities, musicians, EMTs, set-up and tear-down, helping with mailings, making phone calls and more. Volunteers will work in shifts, so they'll have off-duty time to enjoy the festival. Full-time volunteers (three four-hour shifts) will receive a free pass, good for the entire event; half-time volunteers will receive a half-time full event pass. Volunteers will also receive camping and T-shirts. Those interested or seeking more information may email volunteers@stairwaytoheavencmf.org.

Stambaugh said there's a special incentive for individuals to volunteer to sell raffle tickets: the person who sells the most tickets will receive a free family four-pack of tickets.

Sponsors and vendors are also being sought; all vendors and exhibitors will be listed on the website, where applications are also available.
